The deteriorating business environment caused by the financial crisis is forcing car makers on both sides of the pond to proceed to more cuts in production of models that aren’t selling as they used to. Volkswagen will reduce its output of the VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7 premium SUVs at its Slovakian plant in the city of Bratislava by at least 10 percent for the remaining of the year.

The revival of the Scirocco nameplate in VW’s portfolio seems to have inspired designer Marcelo Rosa to create a modern interpretation of another Volkswagen coupe, the relatively unknown SP-2 which was built in Brazil from 1972 through 1976. The SP-2 that was named after the initials of the German firm’s plant in Sao Paulo was developed by Volkswagen’s Brazilian arm exclusively for the South American market.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ UK department has released prices and specs for the new Caddy Sportline and Caddy Maxi Sportline models that were first announced last month. The top-of-the-range Caddys are offered with a 140HP 2.0-liter diesel engine mated to a six-speed gearbox with the Sportline sprinting from 0 to 62 mph (100km/h) in 10.1 sec and the Maxi Sportline in 10.5 sec. In every case O.CT’s kit that includes a modded ECU raises power to 193HP and toque to 285 Nm (+65 Nm).

During the Sao Paulo International Auto Show in Brazil, Volkswagen officials confirmed that the firm’s forthcoming pickup truck that was revealed in concept form at the IAA commercial vehicle show in Hannover in September will go on sale in Europe in 2010. In an interview with Autonews at the Sao Paulo motorshow, “VW do Brasil” CEO Thomas Schmall said the pickup’s main markets will be Brazil, Argentina, South Africa and Australia. The German company also said it has no plans to export the pickup truck to the U.S. market.

For the 2008 SEMA show Volkswagen will bring to Las Vegas a triplet of concept cars based on the Jetta TDI, Passat CC and the new Tiguan SUV respectively as well as an example of its 2009 Jetta TDI Cup race car (pictured above). The most interesting proposal appears to be the Tiguan Performance Concept. According to VW, the Tiguan study’s appearance is upgraded with an exterior body kit while power comes from a 4-cylinder engine equipped with a three-stage turbo kit that helps it deliver an output of 312HP. The German automaker has yet to release any other details or pictures, but stay tuned on Carscoop as we’ll update this story as soon as we have more information.

The SEMA Show’s European counterpart, the ESSEN Motor Show in Germany that runs from 29 November to 7 December will see the debut of yet another tuning proposal for Volkswagen’s new Scirocco, this time from MCCHIP. The German-based tuner has prepared a rather mild package for the Scirocco 2.0 TSI that includes new software and a sport exhaust system which boost the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine’s output from 200 to 246HP. MCCHIP’s proposal also adds a set of 19-inch OZ alloy wheels in high-performance 235/35-19 Michelin PS-Cup rubber and a suspension kit from H&R.

Volkswagen’s LA Auto Show Touareg racer has as much in common with the firm’s production SUV as a typewriter has with a laptop but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The Touareg TDI Trophy Truck is a purpose-built racer or to put it simple, the ultimate dune buggy and it will compete in the 634-mile long 41st Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race. VW’s professional dune buggy is powered by a 5.5 liter V12 clean turbo diesel engine that produces 550 horsepower and 625 lbs.-ft. of torque and is mated to an Xtrac 6 Speed Sequential transmission.
